‘BIBC NEWS’ –  2019 September

AGM: The AGM has come and gone. A grand total of 83 members attended. I can only say that this was not a great turnout with a membership of over 900. I ask myself why do members not attend their own AGM? Is it that they don’t care? Not interested? Or is it because they are happy with the way the club is run?  I wish I knew.

Anyway, those who did attend voted down the Committee’s proposals regarding the increase in subscriptions.  Instead they did agree to an increase of £10, making the annual subscription for full members £70 for the incoming season. Rink fees remain at £2.25 per person per hour.  Can I just add that the cost of bowling at BIBC remains cheap compared to many other sports!

Committee: At the September meeting of the Club’s Management Committee the various Sub Committees were elected; a full list of these is posted on the Secretary’s noticeboard on the bottom green.

British Isles: The Club will once again host the British Isles Championships and UK Home International series in 2021. Now this may seem far away but I can assure you that planning for this prestigious event will start before Christmas.

Restaurant: We welcome a new restaurateur to the Club in Carl Gordon and his partner Dorta. I know you will all give him and his staff time to settle in, but I think you will enjoy his new menu.

Special Offers: All current members when you re-join for the new season will receive a sheet outlining many new offers. A big one is if you pre-pay £100 at the start of the season this will allow you to play casually for the whole season.  Remember too, that the fee for under 18s is nothing, and only £10 per year thereafter.

Coaching: The new season’s Coaching for Beginners starts on Monday October 14th at 7.15pm for an 8 week run.

Wednesday Rinks: Our popular Wednesday afternoon league starts on October 16th. Please register at 3.45 pm to start at 4pm.

Parking: Can I remind all members that the car park at the front of the Club is reserved for Disabled bowlers and Committee members. Please respect this.

Housekeeping: A note from our caretaker who looks after the greens: please don’t throw wet cloths or chamois onto the carpets – they leave a stain. Another point: please don’t leave a lot of material on top of the lockers.

As I get older I realise:

1. I talk to myself, because sometimes I need expert advice.

2. Sometimes I roll my eyes outloud.

3. I don’t need anger management, I need people to stop pissing me off.

4. My people skills are fine. Its my tolerance of idiots that needs work.

5. The biggest lie I tell myself is: I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.

6. When I was a child I thought that naptime was a punishment. Now its like a mini- vacation.

7. The day the world runs out of wine is just too terrible to think about.

8.Even duct tape can’t fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

9. Wouldn’t it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for 10 minutes, come out wrinkle free and three times smaller?

10. ‘Getting lucky’ means walking into a room and remembering why I’m there.
