‘BIBC NEWS’ – 2015 October
ALL SUBS MUST BE PAID BY OCTOBER 14TH – OR A £5 LEVY WILL APPLY.
First of all a few In-House matters: I appeal to all bowlers to respect the rubber mats on the greens – there is a lot of ‘mat abuse’. Each mat costs £15. Secondly, for those of you who use the water fountain during games, I would appeal to you all to empty the cups or dispose of them in the toilets not the waste bins.
Safety Issue: please do not leave jacks, spare or otherwise, on the wooden floor of the concourse. If you borrow a second jack from the Office, please return same.
Leagues: All winter leagues are now up and running of course and to date I am glad to say that, overall, we are up in numbers.
Also, the Men’s Saturday League and the mixed Sunday Pairs leagues have been drawn and are on display. They both start on the weekend of the 10th & 11th October.
Reminder: On Day 1 of the new season, we had only ONE scorecard taken home by mistake! Not too bad I suppose.
Suggestions Box: This largely remains empty these days I am glad to say, BUT if there are any suggestions they will not be dealt with if they are anonymous!
Mobile Phones: This is more than a suggestion! Once again, can I appeal to everyone to turn their mobiles to silent while on the green.
Charity Coffee Morning: Wednesday 21st October. Charity to be confirmed, but please give this annual event your best support.
Men’s Club Competitions: Entry forms will be available from next week ie Monday 5th October. Closing day for all entries will be Sunday November 1st.
Advertising : there is plenty of room on the walls of the Club for advertising boards, so if any members know of any firm keen to advertise in this, our anniversary year, please let Richard know. On the same topic, we are looking for companies to advertise in the Anniversary booklet which we are in the process of producing. Again, speak to Richard.
If any Club members were around at the time of the Club fire and remember anything about it, would you please speak to me asap.
50th Anniversary Dinner : Saturday 28th November. Tickets will be on sale soon.
Note from the Restaurant: there will be no hot meals served between 2 and 4pm. This will be operative from Monday October 5th. The Restaurant will continue to serve snacks, teas and coffees etc as usual. Now is the time for you to book your Christmas meal in the Restaurant – think not only of your rink, but your Short Mat Club.
Congratulations to Stephen Kirkwood who won a Bronze Medal at Samoa Commonwealth Youth Games.
Congratulations also to the Club Darts team who had their most successful season to date, winning both the Lisburn & District Milling McKeown cup and the Lisburn Jeweller Perpetual Cup.
Ladies Vice President: Briege Donnelly has agreed to be the new Ladies Club Vice President, and congratulations go to her. We wish her a successful few years in office.
Coaching (mainly for Beginners) will start on Monday October 12th at 7.15pm, for 8 weeks. Members should bring along their relatives, friends, but no booking is needed.
Short Mat: The short mat bowlers will be with us on and off over the next few Saturdays.
Their dates for October & November are as follows:
Sat 3rd October – Champion of Champions – Singles & Rinks
Sat 17th October – Champion of Champions – Pairs & Triples
Sat 7th November – Club Championships
Sat 21st November – Club Championships
Umpires: Billy McConkey is looking for new umpires. Once he gets enough names he will organise a course. If you are interested in becoming an umpire, please leave your name with the office staff.
As usual at the start of a new year, I appeal for items of interest for this Newsletter. They may be humorous, or literary, or indeed, anything to do with bowls – questions about coaching, umpiring or the law.
