The new season is now well underway and the various leagues and competitions are progressing satisfactorily. A warm welcome is extended to the 123 new members and we hope you enjoy playing with us at the Club. If you have any problems please contact the manager or one of his duty officers who will assist you. November is usually a quiet month so there is little in this Newsletter – in fact the smallest yet.
COMPETITIONS
Congratulations to:
Ø Clifford Craig and Noel Graham on winning the pairs PBA qualifier to the World Indoor Pairs championship being held at Potters Leisure Resort in January 2007. Clifford, who qualified before with his nephew Ryan, beat Ian McClure and Jeremy Henry in the final. The singles representative will be Stephen Moran of CAIBC.
Ø BIBC men who were runners up in the inter-club series. The results were:
BIBC 82 CAIBC 67. BIBC 140 HIBC 61 BIBC 60 PTIBC 82
FINAL PLACINGS: PTIBC 24. BIBC 17. CAIBC 13. HIBC 0.
This was the first time Heritage IBC was involved in the series. Though the opposition may have been stronger than they expected, their club has come a long way in 2 seasons and the experience of the weekend will benefit their future development and growth. From small beginnings …..
Best wishes to:
Ø Jonathan Ross is the only Irish representative competing in the Engage International Open tournament at Sheffield on 29th October- 5th November. There will be television coverage from 2nd to 5th November on BBC.
As I write, Jonathan has won his first round game.
COACHING FOR ADULTS AND JUNIORS
Coaching sessions will continue to be held on Monday evenings 7.15pm to 9.15pm during the month of November. Everyone is welcome especially those new members who may have just taken up bowls and would like to improve their game. And there is space for those who have been playing a little longer and feel they also have room for improvement!
ENTERTAINMENT
The entertainment committee is working on a programme of events for the season and the following events have been arranged for November:
Forthcoming events: -
Saturday November 11th Poker Night
Saturday November 18th Musical entertainment
Saturday November 25th Fundraising tournament and entertainment
CLUB SHOP
Just to remind you of the existence of the club shop. It is fully stocked and Avril Brown and Tom Kennedy are available to assit you. It is important that you support this venture to ensure that the range of equipment, clothes, etc are those which suit your needs.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH AT THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant is taking bookings now for Christmas lunches. They will be served between the 24th November – 21st December between 2pm and 8.30pm. It is excellent value at £13.50 and always very well supported by members and their friends.
ECONOMY OF HEAT AND LIGHT
Heat, light and gas costs the Club over £30,000 annually so it is necessary for us to be always cost conscious and avoid needless use of heat and light. Hence, particularly during the evening sessions, members may be requested by the duty officer to play on one green rather than spread across both greens. Also, the committee have instructed the manager to have duty officers turn off lights over rinks that are not in use. Your co-operation with this important economy measure would be appreciated.
