Welcome to this edition of your Club Newsletter.
Hon Treasurer: Important Notice: The Club’s Treasurer sadly is resigning this year. We urgently need to appoint someone to replace him. This person would need to have an accountancy or financial background, experience of Sage accounts and a smart phone. Anyone interested please speak to Richard in the first instance.
BIWIBC U25: The Club hosted the Ladies U25's in February and Ireland were represented for the first time in 9 years. Congratulations to Sandra Baillie and Catherine Beattie for organising the team – 15 of whom were new caps! The girls played with great spirit and hopefully now this will be the basis for future years. See the colourful collages in the foyer- thanks to Ron McBride for the photos.
Etiquette: A point about etiquette – and not for the first time either! The Law clearly states that when you deliver your bowl you should either follow the bowl and be at the head or behind it when the bowls arrives -or deliver your bowl and retreat back to behind the mat you have just come from. It is NOT good etiquette to wander 10 or 15 metres up the green after delivering your bowl.
Quiz Night: Friday 1st March sees the popular Quiz night organised by the BIBC ladies. It starts at 8pm and teams of 4 – 6 can enter on the night, paying £5 per person (includes a light supper; late licence). All money raised goes towards helping the Belfast Irish Ladies players compete in the International series in Essex 8th – 10th March.
Club Finals: The majority of the Club Finals were played out over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th Feb. Congratulations to all the winners, especially Sandra Bailie who took a clean sweep of the ladies titles, to go with her clean sweep of the ladies Irish titles. Cups and prizes will be presented at the Club Dinner in April.
Summer Leagues: We are planning to run 4 Summer Pairs Leagues again this year i.e.
Tuesday & Wednesday mornings from 10am – 12pm
Thursday & Friday evenings from 7.15 to 9.15pm.
Entry forms are available from the Office, and all forms to be returned by Friday 12th April. Leagues will only operate with a minimum of 8 teams in each league.
Three Bowls Pairs: Entries are being taken for our popular 3 bowl pairs competition to be held on March 30th and 31st. Entries are limited, with a round robin format taking place on the Saturday and the top 2 teams in each group returning on Sunday 31st for the knockout stages.
Lady Presidents Day: March 29th sees the Ladies Presidents closing tournament. All lady bowlers (and friends) are invited to participate in a couple of hours bowling then a light supper
Housekeeping: Our cleaner has asked once again for members NOT to put any cups of water into the red bins -it makes taking the bins away difficult.
Back matches: I am still appealing to all members who have cancelled or postponed matches to play them soon. The back matches all on the noticeboard in the entrance hall. Please make the effort to play these – these matches are draining the club of money.
Miglio Visits: Mel is back with us for a couple more visits before the end of the season -
Monday 11th March
Monday 18th March.
LED Lights: The LED lighting should be in place by the end of February / early March. Hopefully this new lighting will improve everyone’s bowling, as well as save the club a few pennies on the electricity bills!!
Development Plan: the Club actually has one! We have now completed the first item on the agenda – LED lighting and hopefully you all notice and appreciate the new lighting. If any Club member has an exciting or innovative idea for the future, please speak to me.
