‘BIBC NEWS’ – 2016 January

2015 ended with a very successful Dinner, dance and a match between Past and Present Internationals to celebrate the Club’s 50thAnniversary. The match in particular was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and it was interesting to see that the ‘older’ internationals gave the younger ones a run for their money!

Inter Association Cup: The Club also celebrated winning the Men’s Inter-Association Cup with a big win over Ballybrakes (having already beaten Co Antrim).  That means BIBC won both the Ladies and Mens Cups in 2015.   Well done to all invloved!!

The Atlantic Rim: I am sure some of you followed this tournament in Cyprus; Neil Mulholland followed up his Gold medal in Australia by winning a bronze medal in the Triples, and another bronze in the Fours. Sandra Bailie won a Gold Medal in the Triples. Other Irish players did well too, so the Irish contingent came home well rewarded.

I trust you will all by now have noticed the new ‘prams’ or ‘pushers’ – this is for the front ends of rinks to stop them walking like ducks. Please be careful with them.

The Beginners Pairs League starts on January 18th on the top green.

Note: membership fees for new members are reduced from the New Year to £25, plus £5 joining fee.

Club Shop: there will be a Sale in January.

NOTE: please make sure you lift your OWN bowls when leaving a rink at the end of a session.

Pan Disability Cup: entries are now sought for the Magee Cup which is for Pan –Disabilities of all types. Entry forms are now available in the Foyer. This competition will start in the New Year.

Junior Internationals: We have 11 out of 16 representatives on the Junior Men’s Irish International team to play in Bristol on February 20th and 21st 2016. We wish them well, and particularly Darren Atkinson who has been named as Captain. Good to see our young ones coming through!

2017 is going to be a major year for the Club as we host the British Isles and International Series for the first time since 2009.  We are therefore setting up a Fund – Raising Committee. If anyone has experience in this area and would wish to help out please let me know. This Sub Committee is not just open for Committee members.

FINAL WARNING: despite monthly notices, some male players are insisting on wearing jeans in the evening leagues.  I repeat – this is unacceptable and players WILL be asked to leave the green after one warning. Other stadiums have their own dress code – we WILL maintain our own.
